Department Information

With more than 425 full-time faculty and 8,500 degree-seeking students, the Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences (RCHSS), the largest college at the university, prepares the next generation of leaders in a wide array of fields to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century and become contributing citizens in a global society. The home of three Schools and eight Departments, the College offers more than 80 graduate and undergraduate programs of study in both traditional and interdisciplinary fields. RCHSS provides students with experiential learning opportunities to enable them to develop leadership, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, as well as a strong sense of social responsibility through community and global engagement.

Job Summary

Kennesaw State University (KSU) is now accepting applications for a twelve-month, administrative faculty position as a tenured Professor and Associate Dean for Faculty and Inclusive Excellence in the Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences beginning July 1, 2023.

Responsibilities

KSU is a Carnegie-designated doctoral research institution (R2 institution). The Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences (RCHSS) has experienced rapid growth in its student population as well as research. The Associate Dean for Faculty and Inclusive Excellence serves as a member of the college's leadership team. In collaboration with chairs/directors and the Dean, the Associate Dean advances the faculty and inclusive excellence mission of the college; oversees diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and activities; and leads efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in faculty recruitment, retention, promotion, career progression, and professional development. This position will have general oversight for advancing, implementing, and supporting RCHSS's Strategic DEI plan and objectives.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Faculty excellence activities - Oversee faculty recruitment, hiring, professional development, retention, and promotion, with a lens toward promoting the DEI mission of the college
  • Collaborate on the development of and conduct a review of unit bylaws and P&T criteria, and oversee academic personnel policies, processes, and procedures related to faculty affairs
  • Provide consultation to Associate Deans and unit Chairs and Directors on all faculty affairs
  • Mentor and provide professional development to Chairs/Directors
  • Mentor and provide professional development, including programming for early and mid-career faculty
  • Cultivate the leadership potential of faculty within the college to sustain, progress, and further diversity, equity, and inclusion within the college
  • Develop and offer professional development opportunities for all faculty ranks in the college
  • Collaborate with search committees to assure equitable faculty hiring, advance diversity among RCHSS faculty, and broaden recruitment pools
  • Lead and coordinate diversity planning, including creating and developing new initiatives that build on the College's commitment to a welcoming, inclusive environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors
  • Collaborate with the Provost's office, Dean, and Associate Deans in sharing ideas and opportunities to advance DEI in undergraduate and graduate student programs, faculty excellence, facilities, and research
  • Assist the Dean in establishing and maintaining positive internal and external relations with diverse populations and constituencies, including faculty, staff, community partners, alumni, donors, supporters, and external agencies
  • Assist with strategic planning for the college
  • Work with the Dean and other members of the college leadership team to establish and maintain a professional, positive, collegial, supportive, and collaborative culture throughout the college
  • Develop, promote, and integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in faculty processes in support of the institutional climate and in collaboration with other RCHSS associate deans and campus partners
  • Advocate on behalf of historically underrepresented faculty in relation to equity in mentoring, service loads, and related activities
  • Collaborate on College-level DEI development and fundraising activities
  • Build resources to support research related to diversity, equity, and inclusion across the disciplines in the college
  • Conduct elections for college committees; maintain a record of college committee membership and college representatives on institutional committees
  • Other duties as assigned in support of faculty affairs and diversity, equity, and inclusion


Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or terminal degree, or its foreign equivalent, and appropriate credentials to be a tenured Professor in one of the College's academic schools or departments
  • Administrative and/or leadership experience in an academic setting (e.g., including but not limited to experience as a department chair, associate dean, and/or undergraduate or program director or coordinator)
  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • A demonstrated record of commitment to faculty mentoring and success


Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of the ability to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in faculty recruitment, development, retention, promotion, and career progression
  • Evidence of a track record of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as demonstrated by experience working with diverse populations (broadly defined) and in promoting inclusive excellence in research, teaching, student learning and success, service, and/or community engagement
  • Experience teaching in a large and diverse college setting that includes general education
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Evidence of developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with student leaders, faculty, staff, and administrators across a university or college
