The School of Arts and Humanities at St. Catherine University is a community of disciplines including Art and Art History; History and International Studies; Literature, Language, and Writing; Philosophy; and Theology. Together through our interdisciplinary cohort we guide students in their pursuit of making and living a meaningful life. Through our programs, students wield the exploratory, analytic, creative, and expressive power of the Arts and Humanities. Our mission is to educate women, LGBT+, and non-binary people to lead and influence, equipped with the unique contributions of humanistic study. This entails training in our disciplines and cross-disciplinary methods, developing civic engagement, and exercising skills needed to be successful in careers that demand critical and creative thinking. Committing to the work of social justice, as lived by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, we engage in the persistent endeavor to learn about and dismantle the ways in which racism, colorism, ableism, sexism, gender violence, classism, colonialism, environmental degradation, and other forms of oppression have conditioned the world as well as our areas of practice, research, and pedagogy. Hovering at the intersection of theory and praxis, we consider knowledge as meaning-making, as an act rather than merely a representation. Our work is about crafting relevant curricula that reflects and values our students' whole selves-demographic, academic, vocational, physical and spiritual. The Arts and Humanities Division at St. Kate's boldly imagines-and works to produce-a more just, democratic and sustainable future!
